Is corporeal connectivity a good idea?
Sometimes, when I’m occupied or just don’t feel like answering it, I ignore my phone. Sorry, but I don’t always have time for a telemarketer or whatever. Now Nokia wants to make this physically impossible by patenting an electronic tattoo that would vibrate, on your body, whenever someone calls. It would work like a body-based caller ID system, vibrating in a specific pattern according to the caller or the type of message. Talk about a rude interruption.
Nokia’s patent application describes a system that could work in two ways. The first concept uses a detachable electronic material that could peel off your skin, much like these, that you could pair with a phone. The peelable circuitry could detect a magnetic field and cause a vibration, probably through piezoelectrics. When someone calls your phone, the phone sends a signal to the haptic material, which would vibrate in a certain pattern.
"A user of an electronic device may specify in settings of the device that when [the] caller is defined to be 'Bob' in accordance to the phone book of the mobile device, a magnetic field is induced by the electronic device in addition to the ring tone and other possible alert, like visual," the application says.
The second concept would use a ferromagnetic ink to permanently imprint this material into your skin. You could get whatever image you’d want, just like a regular tattoo, and after it’s applied it would be magnetized so it, too, could recognize a magnetic field from your phone. Unwired View breaks down Nokia’s patent application in greater detail.
To be sure, practical uses abound for electronic tattoos, like keeping tabs on your health and fitness. But using them as an attention-grabbing, physical interruption is something else entirely. You can always leave your phone behind — but what about when your phone is literally on your behind? There are plenty of moments in life when it's appropriate to ignore a ringing phone, but it's not easy to ignore your own pulsating skin. Yes, there is such a thing as being too connected.
This is a cool idea. But what if your talking to someone important or in a interview for a big job? Then someone calls you. This tattoo has its pros and cons, its a pro if your sleeping or not by your phone and someone calls. But a con if your doing something important. I personally would not get this tattoo that vibrates.
ReplyDeleteThis tattoo is a good idea but it does have some cons. This vibrating would be irrigating to the skin and this would be bad if it vibrates at bad times . this would be bad while you are trying to sleep or while carrying something this could cause u to drop things.
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be a good idea, but I can also see this having a negative effect on life in general. The vibration can go off at bad times and can be annoying at the same time. Also, in time i can see this doing some type of damage to the skin.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think this is a terrible idea, this will have mostly a negative effect. I think pagers might as well come back out, and people should start using them again before this.
ReplyDeleteI think this would have it good things and bad things to it. i think it would be annoying if im sleeping and it starts vibrating until the call goes to voicemail or i answer. I think it would be good because if you are away from your phone you would know when its ringing. I think after a while it would damage your skin where the tattoo is. i think it would stretch your skin out.
ReplyDeleteI think this tattoo would be annoying and weird. Whenever someone is calling you your body would be vibrating wherever that tattoo is located. If your phone is getting annoying you can move it, but you cannot move a tattoo. I personally wouldn't get this tattoo. .
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of ground breaking. I mean like I never even though of a vibrating tattoo, its honestly something I really can never see possible even though here it is staring me in the face. But I mean that would get annoying, its hard enough falling asleep with people trying to contact you. Now it right there!? Yeah right.
ReplyDeleteI find the tattoo to be a very neat invention, but annoying and kind of a bad idea. Like the entire point of ignoring your phone is so you don't have to talk so why get a tattoo that prevents that?? Plus people try to talk to you at ungodly hours of the night and this?? It could prevent us from sleeping. I wouldn't get this tattoo.
ReplyDeletei do not think this would be a good idea. when your doing something important and your arm start vibrating out of nowhere that would be awkward. or when you dont want to talk to somebody and they keep calling that would make me mad, so no i would not want to get the vibrating tattoo.
ReplyDeletethis is the most stupidest invention yet. I wouldn't like to vibrate all day, especially when I am trying to sleep. it would be so annoying. I wouldn't be able to stand it. anyways, I don't even think this invention would even work.
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be a good idea, but I can also see this having a negative effect on life. The vibration can go off at bad times and can be annoying at the same time. The worst part it will wake you up at night when your falling asleep.
ReplyDeleteThey have a nice concept, but I feel like something is going to go wrong with this idea. What if somebody wanted the ink removed? What if the chemicals in the ink could cause cell damage in the future? I hope they tested this idea on something before letting it out to the world.
ReplyDeleteIt would be pretty cool cause you could never forget it. But I feel like it would get very annoying after a while. I wouldn't get it cause I don't think it is a very good idea.
ReplyDeleteIts a good idea but think but think about it it will probably be annoying and i think it might cause problems in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think having a virbation tatto is stupid and cool. Its stupid because, im the type that would get annoyed . But than its cool because its different and unique.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool idea but it would get very annoying. The tattoo would be very distracting when you try to sleep or work. This isn't something I would want.
ReplyDeleteI think its dumb because tattoos are mad to represent story people character and to cover up space on body not act as a alert system
ReplyDeleteThe tattoo is is interesting but it's almost impossible and not effective.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is a very smart idea. Some people get tattoos to represent something and this is just defeating the value and purpose
